This video was shot in my apartment by Michael Stone after we watched the Pats defeat the Texans in January. Michael had made this really cool video of an entire bottle of ketchup being poured onto a burger a few years ago, and it always cracked me up. Once Extra Cheese became the album title, it didn’t take long for me to ask if I could steal the idea. We ended up using four cans of Easy Cheese in four takes. I ate a small amount, and Michael had none.
I’ve been working with Michael on this kind of stuff for a literal decade. This album makes 8/10 artworks done by him. There’s a major in-person component to the way we work on these. Once we agree on an idea, we meet up then he makes it happen while I help however I can. I’m usually involved in getting the shot, but not quite so involved in the lengthy preparation to set the shot up. Because of that, I kind of just pace around and watch. And in all that watching, I’ve learned one thing: In order to be a great photographer—in this case videographer—you have to be a master of light.
